We recently started offering free shipping to our customers in the UK and Canada and have been able to slash shipping prices to our customers in Europe as well. How can we do this? We have opened up warehouses in both countries. This allows us to use local shipping services, so we can avoid international shipping fees and customs duties. For a set of rings, this saves about $30 for shipments to Canada and $40 for shipments to the UK. And it cuts the delivery time from 3 weeks to 1-6 days for Canada, 1-4 days for the UK and 3-7 days for Europe.
"Shipping and Taxes"
I've received a few e-mails from customers that have been confused about a charge they are seeing in the shopping cart. Even though we offer free shipping, we still have to charge the taxes levied by these countries. So, what you are seeing is the VAT or GST tax. Our shopping cart is not normally designed to support multiple warehouses around the work and the resulting tax implications. To get our cart to show the correct prices, we had to create a custom pricing algorithm that factors in the multiple warehouses. Because of that, we can't display the taxes and shipping costs separately. Right now, we're working on making some "tool tips" to put in the shopping cart next to this field to explain what it is. But it has created some confusion, so hopefully this post will explain what's going on. We've been accused by a few people of being dishonest, but we're actually trying our hardest to save our customers time and money.
In the past, customers had to pay shipping, VAT/GST and customs duties. We have eliminated 2 out of 3, so that's pretty good!
